COMARES!

The moment I set eyes on this unbelievable little white town, which looks like it just walked out of the arabic fairytales of 1001 night, I fell completely in love with it. I knew immediately this was the place I wanted to be for a long time..

 

 

And so it happened: me, my cats and 2 dogs moved up in the hills around Comares with breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains and the sea.

Comares appears to be glued to the high rocks and it seems almost impossible it won't roll downhills. I think it probably will 1 day, but hope that is not yet to come for a few more centuries, ha.

 

You can imagine that those roman and arabic knights from the past, could watch beautifully from their high post who came to attack them. That is also what the name "Comares" means: "fortress on the hill" and it comes from the old arabic word "Qumaris". There still are a few remains of an ancient castle here. The centre of the town what overlooks the area is known as "the balcony of the Axarquia"

 

Me and my visitors have tasted the delicious dishes from the old mill, who has been reformed in a hotel/restaurant because there is no better location anywhere overlooking the mediterranean sea with its constantly changing colours of blue in the distance.

So, if you do plan to visit the Costa del Sol with all its aspects, try also to find some time to visit this wonderful and amazing little town on the hilltop, which you can spot from long distance while driving up here.
