2011
Some highlights: Sven 50 jaar, Sunny Sailing from Gocek, skiing Portes de Soleil, St.Anton, Almaty, Kazakhstan, Oman reunie, travel to Turkmenistan, Lars 5 jaar en schoolreisje. In January Sven received 3+1 stents on his heart to unblock two of his coronary arteries (kransslagaderen). This happened through percutane coronaire intervention/PCI/dotter behandeling in the Sint Antonius hospital in Nieuwegein, the Dutch Centre of Excellence on cardio treatment, after Sven was diagnosed with 'Angina Pectoris' in Q4 2010 when he felt some unfamiliar chest pain during running in August 2011.
Fortunately, Sven is feeling fully fit again. Everybody asks: Why Sven? There is no straight answer as heart problems do not seem to run in the family, while his blood pressure and cholesterol levels were (just) within the (upper) limits. Let's say it had been caused by an unlucky combination of too much 'bad (saturated/verzadigde) fats' (Sven loves cookies, chips and deserts and never gained weight), stress (Sven tends to act 'last minute') and/or lack of sleep. Nowadays, Sven adopted more healthy eating habits, starts a little earlier, but still goes to bed late. Let's hope his arteries stay open...
