This is how we started

The Kassandra Quartet was formed in 1994 at The Academy of Music in Aarhus. The name of the quartet comes from the Greek mythology. Read here, who Kassandra was.

The quartet had a rather unusual debut, as it was in Palle Granhoej's dance performance "Bodyfluid". In the dark, sitting on a row with the back towards the audience, the quartet performed the 3rd string quartet by Aulis Sallinen by heart. After this demanding and inspiring task the quartet decided to continue the collaboration.

The Kassandra Quartet has always combined more traditional quartet repertoire with theatre (Fiddler on the Roof, Aarhus Theatre 1995), popular music and festival performances. As a result the quartet took part in recordings with the Danish pop group TV-2 and the guitar player Kaare Norge, and performed multiple concerts all over Denmark.
Further more the quartet has participated in the summer course at West Dean College, England with the famous English "The Chilingirian Quartet" in 1995, 1996 and 1999.

In March 2000 the quartet participated in the chamber music competition hosted by the National Danish Radio, and in May the quartet was on a successfull tour to China with the Danish guitar player Kaare Norge.

In June 2000 the Kassandra Quartet studied with the Dutch baroque specialist Leo Meilink. Here the idea of a masterclass for string quartets in Denmark was born!

The Kassandra Quartet invited Leo Meilink to Copenhagen from 26.th - 28.th of April 2002, where he gave a masterclass at Glyptoteket in Copenhagen.

12th of May 2004 the Kassandra Quartet played at the Royal Palace, Amalienborg in connection with the royal wedding.

16th - 20th of June 2004 the quartet participated in an open masterclass with The Chilingirian Quartet at Nr. Wosborg arranged by Ensemble Midtvest

The members of The Kassandra Quartet live very far apart - in Utrecht, Amsterdam and Aarhus. Working as a quartet then becomes more project minded, and concerts are planned well in advance.
