A typical painter of cows in the meadows around his place of birth. Nevertheless he attracted attention by his typical style inwhich a blue haze covered his paintings giving them a surrealistic expression.
Mathijs Maris was impressed by his work and they had a intense correspondance. There was also attention abroad, he had a number of expositions in England, the USA and Brasilia.
