Anne-Pierre de Kat, 1881-1968

The breakfast
Oil on canvas 89x74 cm
Signed lower left: de Kat
Painted about 1913.

Important work of de Kat inwhich he represents the style of the Brabant Fauve painters. Parts of the canvas are not covered with pain to give a naturel depth, a technique that was defended by the fauve painters such as de Cock, Paerels, Scoupreman and Wouters. This way of painting gives more depth or three dimensional effect to the painting. Typical is the blueish veil on the painting that was part of the technique of the subgroup of "The Blues".
