Leon De Smet, Gent,1881 - Deurle,1966
Madame Maria De Smet and her son Marcel
Oil on canvas 140 x 145 cm.
Painted in England in 1915
Piet Boyens discusses the painting in extenso in his book. He sees matches with van Rysselberghe and Whistler. There is certainly some relation with the "jugendstil" . De Smet maintained a modest form of divisionism with rich color contrasts.
